Summary

Bestselling author, speaker, and activist Christine Caine helps readers who are feeling weary and like things somehow aren't quite right to identify how they ended up where they are and what they need to do to course-correct and anchor themselves in the only One who does not change or shift with the currents。

We've all at some point looked up from the daily grind and realized we had somehow drifted off course。 Maybe we've been doing all the right Christian things and saying all the right Christian words, but inside we know something is just a bit off。 Like we've run out of energy, vision, passion, and feel unable to move forward。 The question we're pondering is not only How did I get here? but also What do I do now?

In this new book, Caine meets us all in that place of weariness and uncertainty, sharing her own journey of discovery with vulnerability, candor, and self-deprecating humor。 She lays out what she has learned about staying the course when you're feeling untethered and guides us each to

learn the questions to ask about our relationships with God, with others, and with our own hearts to stay continually anchored despite the world's shifting currents;
discover how to trust God more deeply by moving from a "what if?" kind of faith to an "even if" kind of faith;
identify nine signs we are drifting off course and learn how to reposition ourselves to get back on track; and
wrestle honestly with life's hard questions so we can respond faithfully to all the ways God answers, including the times when it feels like he doesn't。
Christine offers up deeply personal stories, scriptural insights, and an eye-opening admonition to start paying closer attention, helping us to stop drifting and start thriving as we place our anchor on our unchanging, trustworthy God。

For someone who clearly has such reverence for Him, sometimes her writing doesn’t reflect it as strongly。 I give it 4。5 out of 5!! I loved this book。 The drift of believers that I follow on social media is real and disconcerting。 Christine Caine speaks gracious truth, orienting us to Christ and the foundations of an anchored life。 I felt like a big sister was giving me straight talk, and offering me the good path of prayer, endurance, righteousness, trust, community, healing, mission。 If you feel a bit tossed and turned by the last year and the barrage of mixed-messaging by influencers, let this book make clearer the Way。

It's been awhile since a book has convicted me like How Did I Get Here?, leaving me thinking about my own spiritual walk and if I am currently drifting。 I have been feeling stagnant in my faith for awhile, almost to the point that I'm starting to not even go through the motions anymore, but reading this book lit something inside me, and I felt a spark I haven't felt in a long time。。。hope。While I know that change isn't going to happen overnight, my heart is again full of hope, and I have to thank It's been awhile since a book has convicted me like How Did I Get Here?, leaving me thinking about my own spiritual walk and if I am currently drifting。 I have been feeling stagnant in my faith for awhile, almost to the point that I'm starting to not even go through the motions anymore, but reading this book lit something inside me, and I felt a spark I haven't felt in a long time。。。hope。While I know that change isn't going to happen overnight, my heart is again full of hope, and I have to thank God for using this amazingly deep and raw resource to start to move the stagnant waters of my heart, and help me learn how to once again drop my anchor。Christine Caine also found herself in uncharted waters, and in one moment, after much soul searching, she realized that she had unknowingly drifted, and this is where me, and many I've spoken to, especially since the pandemic, have also found themselves。 How Did I Get Here? is Christine's personal story, and an invitation for the reader to join her on her journey as she checks each spiritual "link" one by one, prompting the reader to do the same, each link leading to the anchor of Jesus。 Filled with both heart and gospel, and chock full of Biblical references, and real talk, this resource not only gives sound doctrine to each point that is made, but it also urges you to dive deeper in study on your own, something I very much appreciated。How Did I Get Here? is such a rich reference that I am already going back and doing a deeper study on my own。 I can see that God is using this resource to reach me, and I can see this publication being a game changer for many。*I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Nelson Books through NetGalley。 All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own。 。。。more

Human beings crave consistency, stability, and reliability。 We are made to flourish when purposefully planted on solid ground and in good soil。 We are designed to be rooted deep, watered daily, and producing fruit。 When we have a healthy foundation, we grow, are pruned, enhance in quality, and expand, not just our reach, but also our supply。These attributes were threatened during the Covid-19 pandemic。 For some, they were carried away in the storm of 2020 and dragged into a murky mess where blac Human beings crave consistency, stability, and reliability。 We are made to flourish when purposefully planted on solid ground and in good soil。 We are designed to be rooted deep, watered daily, and producing fruit。 When we have a healthy foundation, we grow, are pruned, enhance in quality, and expand, not just our reach, but also our supply。These attributes were threatened during the Covid-19 pandemic。 For some, they were carried away in the storm of 2020 and dragged into a murky mess where black muddles shades of gray。 For others, the unsteady wind of a wild year gradually pushed them in a direction they never intended to go。 Yet, those anchored in Christ who endured and persevered had their faith tried, tested, and strengthened。If there is one lesson that comes from the Covid-19 pandemic, it should be the realization that God is the only constant in an ever-changing and unpredictable world。 He is, was, and will forever be the Sovereign Authority of all (Revelation 1:8)。As a Type-A recovering perfectionist, I clung to the Truth and promise that God is in control despite living in a world that very much felt like it was spinning out of control。 I drew close to Him and sought Him, daily, because He was the only consistent, stable and reliable thing in my life。 I could have tuned out, but instead chose to tune in(to) Him because He has proven faithful to me over years of trials, tribulations, confusions, and heartaches。 Time and time again。But that wasn’t always the case。 Even during my (almost 15) years of being a Christian, I have found myself being led astray by the current of the world and my own fleshly desires。 Sometimes I was misguided unwittingly and other times I had drifted intentionally。 In those regretful moments, complacency, contentment, weariness, frustration, and devastation drove the ship away from the shore。 It wasn’t until I had looked back at where I had been, that I had realized just how far I had gone。 This is the concept behind Christine Caine’s latest book, How Did I Get Here: Finding Your Way Back to God When Everything is Pulling You Away。 Caine draws on her personal experience of finding herself drifting during a difficult season in her life。 She describes how easy it is to drift away from Jesus and the foundation of your faith when you are not attentive, proactive, and intentional。 Drifting, or coasting (moving without power) happens gradually and often when you are not paying close attention。 Using the imagery of the natural current of a body of water, Caine explains how an individual can be guided further and further away from where he or she originally began。 The elements of wind and waves can take a person off course or make their condition unstable and/or uncertain。 This is a compelling illustration that is very relatable, especially when considering today’s culture and the political climate in the United States。 “For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away。” Hebrews 2:1In her signature style, Caine vulnerably, honestly, humbly, and humorously shares her journey of wrestling with questions that deeply challenged her faith。 By refocusing her eyes back on Jesus and the steadiness of God’s purpose for her life, Caine was able to redirect herself from a what-if consideration to an even-if position of an unwavering faith。 Additionally, How Did I Get Here identifies nine signs that suggest you may be drifting:1。)tAre you shifting with the world’s current or are you anchored to the Rock? 2。)tAre you trusting in God or are you trying to control your life?3。)tAre you working towards healing and restoration or are the wounds of your past seeping into your present?4。)tAre you asking questions amidst struggles in your faith or are you wandering away from your faith?5。)tAre you seeking prayer or are you seeking advice?6。)tAre you gathering in community [for support, courage, and accountability] or are you isolating yourself?7。)tAre you hungry for the Spirit or are you bingeing on worldly things?8。)tAre you living in a protective and comfortable bubble or are you living out the Great Commission to go and make disciples? 9。)tAre you enduring, persevering, and pressing into Jesus or are you steadily coasting away?If you are feeling empty or are longing for the spiritual fullness you once knew, then you need to read this book! It asks hard questions and encourages the reader to personally examine their faith and the condition of their heart。 It is practical, applicable, and packed with wisdom, biblical insight, relatable humor, and reminders that you are never too far gone to be brought back home。 。。。more
